No sports team is complete without a uniform and when it comes to locating uniforms for youth baseball, you will find that there are numerous options available to you.
From single unit sales to complete uniform packages, you won't have any trouble finding something to suit the young athlete in your life.
The typical baseball uniform consists of a pair of pants, a jersey, socks, hats and usually a lightweight jacket of some kind.
Most youth pants are made out of polyester, have an elastic waist and drawstring, and no buttons, zippers, or snaps of any kind. Reinforced knees protect the pants against hard slides into home and a small back patch pocket completes the design. Short sleeved jerseys carry a full athletic chest cut and crewneck and the team's name and logo and player’s number are often screened or stitched on the front and/or back. Stretch nylon socks are designed not to sag and are meant to breathe to keep the foot as cool and dry as possible.
The traditional billed baseball cap completes the uniform. The cap is usually fully adjustable and will have the team’s name or logo stitched or screened on the crownfront panel.
Many uniform companies will offer a basic design and allow the customer to choose colors and customize the uniform with logos, names and numbers. In many cases you can choose product style, fabric, trim and insert colors and locations. For lettering and numbers you may have a choice in font style, size and color. Size guides are always handy to make sure you get your order exactly right.
While full uniforms are great and children love the idea of getting dressed up in costumes, they actually can get quite expensive especially as you start adding various customized features. Once you factor in the fact that children grow so fast, you suddenly realize that you are unlikely to get more than a single season out of a uniform.
For a less expensive option, there are standard baseball pants available in solid colors that can be purchased for a very affordable price. Matching t-shirts can be printed with numbers and letters for a reasonable price.
When purchasing youth baseball uniforms you need to pay special consideration to pant size because restricted movement is a danger when pants are too small. Jersey size is not as crucial but should also be big enough to allow ease of movement without interference.
Teams in warm climates should pay particular attention to the fabric chosen because they will need a uniform that can breathe and guard against overheating. Almost all pants are made out of polyester but jerseys are made in many varying weights of polyester and cotton/polyester blends. The general rule states that the higher the cotton content, the cooler the garment will keep you.
Regardless of what your team chooses to wear on game day, a well designed uniform will give any team a polished look and a winning attitude.
